Heathers the musical
Currently showing at The Other Palace this is the cult Winona Ryder movie given the musical treatment. It has a lot going for it, mainly it shining star Carrie Hope Fletcher who blew me away as Wednesday Addams recently in the Adams Family musical and blew me away again tonight. She is worth the ticket alone and happy to hear to she will transfer to the West End in September. The rest of the show is rather camp with some killer songs. Its Xanadau meets Legally Blonde by way of Vanities. Its definitely doesn’t have a whiff of the black comedy from its source material this story is more OTT and all the better for it. Some songs are real betters and the show manages to create a musical numbers out of a 7 Eleven, Sylvia Plath and a pair of gay dads. Kudos also goes to the 3 Heathers they had me in stitches + a heart warming performance from Jenny O’leary as Martha. But I did feel slightly out of place as many of the audience were dressed as Heathers. Most had been before, listened endlessly to the soundtrack and knew when to scream , shout, swoon and whoop. I kind of felt left out. It was actually nice to see so many young people at the theater and id say its definitely worth a watch and hey don’t forget those scrunchies
